Thursdays with NAMI: Fatin Abdal-Sabur speaks candidly about life with bipolar 2

Fatin Abdal-Sabur is an educator and writer who lives in Maryland. In 2016 she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, a condition marked by alternating periods of elation and depression. She has since experienced two hospitalizations and subsequent recovery. Her specific diagnosis is Bipolar 2, in which the “up” moods never reach full-blown mania. The less-intense elevated moods in bipolar II disorder are called hypomanic episodes, or hypomania.

Today the New Jersey native is dedicated to sharing her story and is a regular volunteer with NAMI Baltimore and its local affiliate in Prince George’s County. She is a former teacher of English as a Second Language and has 17 years of experience as a writing educator.
