I’ve made a home out of our love,
A safe space that I fear will be burned to the ground.
I give you the love that I’ve never given anyone from my past,
And in return,
I’m met with reciprocated energy.
Our days together have turned into weeks,
Then months.
And each day I feel the barrier I once had around my heart softening more.
You often speak of us in the future tense,
As though you want me around long-term.
I’ve made a home out of our love,
And some days I question why it feels so pure.
Some days I find myself waiting for the inevitable to happen.
Allowing past trauma to affect the present.
Trying to enjoy the here and now with you,
But scared that you’ll turn out to be like all the rest.
I fell so fast for you that it almost made me fear you.
How can my love for someone grow infinitely?
Out into a space and time that I can’t even fathom.
I’ve made a home out of our love,
And although the foundation isn’t perfect,
It’s solid.
Our love keeps me warm even in the coldest weather.
It’s the light when darkness consumes me.
Loving you feels like I’m loving for the first time,
And I’m eternally grateful to be on this journey with a woman like you.
