Valentine’s Day, celebrated on February 14th, is traditionally known for exchanging chocolates, flowers, and other romantic gifts with loved ones. However, did you know that it is also International Book Giving Day?
This year, let’s add books to the list of gifts we can give. To stick with the day’s theme of love and romance, why not consider giving a romance genre book to your book-loving partner?
Romance Recommendations
Colleen Hoover, Taylor Jenkins Reid, and Beth O’Leary are some of the most popular romance authors at the moment, making them great choices for a loved one who enjoys a good cheesy romance!
Book Recommendations:
It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover
November 9 by Colleen Hoover
All Your Perfects by Colleen Hoover
One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid
A Hopeless Romantic by Harriet Evans
Me Before You trilogy by Jojo Moyes
Many of their books are cutesy romance, but others do have darker aspects to them so please do read the trigger warnings before diving in!
A different option for you might be classic romances by the likes of Charlotte Bronte, Emily Bronte and Jane Austen. And we cannot forget about Shakespeare’s romantic tragedies too!
Book Recommendations:
Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
We can’t forget the smutty romances either, these are also growing in popularity at the moment!
Lauren Asher and Scarlett St. Clair are two of which I have read and would recommend if you are looking for a little bit of spice.
Book Recommendations:
Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover
A Touch of Darkness/ A Game of Fate series by Scarlett St. Clair
The Fine Print Trilogy by Lauren Asher
Fifty Shades of Grey Trilogy by E.L.James
Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuisto
Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R.Ward
Willow Winters books which have many discreet covers if you’d like to keep your interest quiet!
But I get it, romance novels may not be to everyone’s taste. I myself like to read a mixture of genres.
On that note, let’s talk Sci-Fi and Fantasy
Many of us love a good fantasy or Sci-Fi novel, and even better, a series. I could get lost in another world for hours with the right book. Sometimes that is exactly what a person needs, a place to escape.
Fantasy and Sci-Fi Recommendations:
Divergent Series By Veronica Roth
The Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins
Inkworld Series by Cornelia Funke
Shatter Me Series by Tahereh Mafi
Lightlark by Alex Aster
Harry Potter By J.K Rowling
The Lord of the Rings series by J.R.R Tolkien
Dune by Frank Herburt
Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell
Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
This list, like others, could continue on forever, but how about we step into another genre…
A Hop into Horror
First recommendation for horror or psychological thriller will be Stephen King. He is a master of his craft and he fits this category to a T with his never-ending assortment of novels.
Josh Mallerman, Mary Shelley, Anne Rice, Ray Bradybury and many others have a toe in this pond as well.
Horror and Thriller Recommendations:
The Shining by Stephen King
Pet Sematary by Stephen King
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice
The Guest List by Lucy Foley
The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
Verity by Colleen Hoover
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
I won’t lie, I could give many lists of many genres to gift for February 14th. I won’t list them all though as there would be thousands of pages.
My biggest tip is to ask what your significant other, friend or loved one likes to read and find something they may not have in their personal library.
If you are not a reader yourself, you could also ask their friends for some advice or even a book shop assistant – they are usually very friendly and helpful!
If all else fails, a gift card, or a trip to a bookstore would go down just as well for any book lover.
So, the question is, what kind of book would you love for Valentine’s day?
For me the list is very long.
By Bella!
