Bloganuary, today’s prompt is: How do you define success?

What Is Your Perspective? How Do You Evaluate Success

The definition of success is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. It means different things to different people.

When I think of success, I think of people chasing something. It could be the next promotion, it could be an invite to a big social event, or it could be a bigger house.

Personally, I believe that to be successful, you need to be truly content and happy. I am definitely not saying to stand still or stop learning but to be genuinely satisfied with your situation and status.

If you are always running to the next promotion, how can you feel true joy in your work? Your goal should be to advance, but when do you enjoy what you do? I love ambition, but I also love being happy where I am.

When I think about where I am in my life at this moment, I think about this blog. I started it to be a business. It is helping me in the form of therapy and telling my story, but I would love for it to explode, and for I will be financially more secure than I am. But I am enjoying the beginning of this adventure. I feel successful with each word that I type.

The most successful man in history

Apostle Paul from the Bible must have been the most successful man, in my view. I think this way because he had everything and nothing, and yet he was content with both.

Philippians 4:11-12

11 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance, and need.

If you do not know the Apostle Paul, he was a Pharisee who knew Mose’s law extensively. He persecuted followers of Christ until he was stuck blind on his journey on the road to Damascus and Jesus spoke to him. 

Paul went on to write several books of the Bible and became a great teacher of Christianity. He travels all over Rome to preach the Gospel. The Apostle Paul was later imprisoned and killed. 

To answer today’s prompt: your joy level measures success.
